We are seasoned journalists with a passion for entrepreneurship. By delivering relevant news and information, we hope to strengthen the business community and teach entrepreneurs how to make the world a better place through best business practices that result in strong companies and outstanding workplaces.

As the small business columnist for the Chicago Tribune since 2002, Ann Meyer has provided exclusive coverage of Chicago-area small businesses and the issues and trends confronting them, She also has written for BusinessWeekChicago, BWSmallBiz, SmallBusinessReview.com and U.S. News & World Report. Through interviews with more than 1,500 small business owners and experts, Meyer has gained an appreciation for the challenges business owners face daily as well as the vital role they serve in the community and in stimulating economic development.  “Ann has developed into one of the premiere and most respected small-business journalists in the country,” said Jim Kirk, a former Tribune business editor. “In the 20 or so years I have known Ann, I am continually impressed by her zeal for responsible journalism, compelling story-telling and her relentless pursuit of truth-finding.”

Previously, Meyer served as editor of The Catalog and Web Marketer from 1991 to 2001, and also have covered the food and retail marketing industries for various business publications. She began her career as a reporter for the St. Petersburg Times Co. in Florida, before serving as associate editor of Mature Outlook magazine. She hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and held internships at The Miami Herald and U.S. News & World Report. In December 2009, Meyer completed graduate certificates in nonprofit administration and nonprofit governance from North Park University in Chicago. She expects to complete her master’s degree in nonprofit administration in 2011 and is a member of the national honor society in business administration.

Meyer is joined by Suzanne Cosgrove, a former real estate editor at the Chicago Tribune. Cosgrove previously was the Chicago bureau chief for Market News International and was a financial reporter for Knight-Ridder Financial News.  Cosgrove, a Chicago native who currently blogs about Chicago finance, holds a master’s degree in journalism from Medill and a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University/Mundelein College.  She frequently teaches news writing and copy editing at Northwestern University’s Medill School of  Journalism in Evanston.
